America's Next Top Model creator and supermodel turned entrepreneur, Tyra Banks, talked about her forward thinking venture Tyra Beauty and female empowerment in tech at the Wall Street Journal Live conference on Tuesday.
The talented beauty earned a business degree from Harvard and is personally invested into her own tech startup. In an interview with Allure magazine, Banks shed light on the real story behind her attendance at the Ivy league school.
I'm about to take the stage to talk about females and entrepreneurship at #WSJDLive right now!

"A lot of people were wondering why I went to Harvard Business School, and I couldn't say why. I was like, 'I'm just trying to be a better businesswoman.' Actually, I went because I was going to start this cosmetics business and wanted to make sure I had all the tools in order to create it, launch it, build it, lead it, grow it," she said.
Banks hopes that her beauty products will empower women to do more for themselves which has been her mission since moving on from her days on the catwalk. In a large room full of mostly middle-aged white males, Banks sat onstage wearing a t-shirt that said, "I'm an entrepreneur, b*tch."
She discussed her business fails and her ability to keep pursuing her dreams in the faces of her doubters.
Initially, Banks will fund the beauty startup, but plans to seek investors this coming year. "Based on our growth, I'm not going to be able to afford to carry it forever so we're going to be raising some money next year," she said at the conference.
Her drive comes from her ability to keep thinking about her next goal. She credited her mother and mentor to keeping her on her toes. "It's important to leave before they leave you." her mother advised.
Banks recently announced on Twitter that her show America's Next Top Model is coming to end this December after a 12-year run. The supermodel is currently hosting her new daytime talk show FAB Life on ABC.
When your short haircut is growing out so on your new talk show, you curl it really tightly because you don't wanna look like you belong in the group Salt N' Pepa even though you are in love with them especially Shoop. A photo posted by Tyra Banks (@tyrabanks) on Sep 25, 2015 at 7:46am PDT
