The October 21, 2015 edition of WWE's NXT will air tonight and we now have some clarity in the men's singles division after we spent the majority of the lead up to NXT Takeover: Respect focused on several tag teams and the women's division. The show will air on the WWE Network at 8 p.m. EST, but if you can't watch there, try here or here – both links broadcast free live streams of the show (this may require downloading a torrent).
The main event of last week's episode was a "Battle Royal" to select the top contender to Finn Balor's NXT Championship. The champion and his former tag team partner Samoa Joe wished to square off for the belt in a match of mutual respect -- something the WWE likes to run now and again -- but General Manager William Regal curiously decreed that the majority of the NXT roster would mix it up in the ring to determine who would get a shot at the title.
The final three in the match were Joe, Apollo Crews, and Baron Corbin. The man formerly known as Uhaa Nation, on the independent scene, was the last man standing to lock up a title shot and confirm fans' opinion that WWE has plans to strap the rocket to his back.
Crews and Balor could have their title match at any time now, which is the wonderful thing about NXT. It could take place on a standard Wednesday episode in a few weeks' time, or it could occur at the next NXT Takeover live special, NXT Takeover: London, on December 16.
Regardless, the two men need to have a few face-to-face meetings in the ring. Crews can discuss how he's been on a roll ever since he arrived in NXT this summer, while Balor can talk about how he's been defending the title ever since he earned the belt from Kevin Owens on July 4th at "Beast in the East" in Tokyo .
NXT has demonstrated that it can build a story around two good guys feuding for the title, most famously in the arc they crafted with Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville throughout 2014. This story could be juicier if Balor were to turn heel, which would spice up his character a little, but a face vs. face feud would work for now.
