ABC has ordered a full season for Ken Jeong's (Community) show Dr. Ken. This is the first new comedy to earn a full order this fall. The show pulls from Jeong's own experiences as a practicing doctor before he portrayed the unpredictable and money-hungry Mr. Chow in The Hangover films. Dr. Ken is currently the top show in its 8:30 p.m. Friday night timeslot for adult viewers 18-49 and averages about 6.6 million viewers each week.
Jeong created the family comedy alongside Jared Stern (Wreck It Ralph) and John Fox (The Blacklist) for the network. His wife is played by Suzy Nakamura who is also a doctor on the show and their two children, played Albert Tsai and Krista Marie Yu, are just as clever as their parents. Dave Foley (The Kids In The Hall), Jonathan Slavin (Better Off Ted) and Tisha Campbell-Martin (Martin) also join the cast as Dr. Ken's colleagues.

The show is the third new series to get picked up for a full season this fall. ABC ordered more episodes of the FBI drama Quantico and NBC gave the greenlight for its suspense series Blindspot.
Although its ratings are high, the series has faced mixed reviews since it first aired on Oct. 20. It's tied with NBC's Truth Be Told on review site Metacritic as having the most negative reviews this season.
Mike Hall at The New York Times stated, "What makes Dr. Ken such a cringefest is the disconnect between Mr. Jeong's florid persona – pitched at the edge of desperation – and everything else on screen, which stays within the boundaries of a network family series."
With its new pickup, it will be interesting to watch and see if the writers take their critiques to heart and make changes before the season ends.
Dr. Ken airs Fridays at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
