Justine Betti, a sophomore at Linden High School in California, managed to videotape her gym teacher stealing from students' back packs. After students complained of money gone missing, Betti took it upon herself to stake out the locker room by hiding in one of the lockers and then eventually used camera phones to document the crime. The teacher in question was actually a very well liked gym teacher so the situation is bittersweet for Betti and her classmates.

The thefts had been occurring all year so Justine decided to hide in a locker to see if she could catch the thief in action. To her surprise, she found her gym teacher going through the backpacks. "After all the kids left she stayed in there and went through people's backpacks," Justine said, and then adding, "I saw her take money and then I told people and nobody believed me." This lead to her surveillance plan, saying, "Something needed to be done. Like, that's not ok." She decided to hide in a locker again, but this time she was armed with a camera phone in her hand and another propped up in a different locker. Both cameras caught footage of the gym teacher rummaging through the backpacks and taking what appears to be money out of them. "I didn't want to believe that she would do something like that because she was so nice, but then she did it," Betti said. "I was like, oh my God, I can't believe I got this on video and I couldn't believe that I got it and I kept watching it over and over."

After Betti and several friends took the evidence to the Linden High School principal, she say he would investigate the situation and to delete the video but she "had already sent it" to her dad and other students had circulated the video as well.

The teacher in question has been placed on administrative leave. Both the Linden School District and the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department have opened investigations. So far there have been no criminal charges filed and that decision will be left up to the district attorney.

Justine Betti admitted that the decision to turn the in the evidence was a difficult one due to the popularity of the gym teacher saying, "She was so nice. Like I saw it and I would never believe it. We feel like we did the right thing, but it's still kinda hard."
