Oreos are made up of two cookies held together by creme. We all know this. But what if you only wanted to cookie part without the creme? Luckily, physicist David Neevel of Portland, Oregon, took it upon himself to create a contraption that takes the creme out of the equation: the Orea Seperator Machine (OSM). In this video [provided below] featured on Oreo's YouTube page, Neevel explains the process and reasoning behind his contraption. This physicist admits that he is not a crème fan, which lead him to wanting to build this Rube Goldberg-type robotic system. He had to teach himself how to construct a robot and then use his trade to have it all come together.

The video itself was put together by the cookie company and features the monotone physicist explaining each step of the process. Having Neevel, with his large mustache and facetious attitude, really adds to the appeal of this marketing promotion. Oreo is currently running a "Cookie or Crème" campaign, so little advertisements featuring real people like this are actually a clever move from the cookie company. The contraption might not be the most attractive machine, but it gets the job done and is very impressive. The use of the router at the end is the best part.

When Neevel mentions how cold his workshop is and how the machine itself was not that hard to make, it really adds a comedic angle to the commercial. He also says that he had to spend many hours away from his girlfriend and his dog. This guy is hilarious. He has such a dry sense of humor. Or maybe he is just kind of weird. Either way, his machine is pretty ingenious and definitely works. Everything about him screams "Portlandia Extra" as well. This is a compliment.

Also, the title of the video is "Oreo Separator Machine #1," so are we to assume that more machines are on their way? I sure hope so. I am sure that a contraption like that is already underway and probably has been for quite some time. Lots of people like the crème portion of Oreos.

What is your preference? Would you try to build something in order to get what you wanted out of this delicious snack? Is any of this effort worth making a treat more enjoyable? Please use the comment section to voice your opinions and maybe we could all sit down together and get this Oreo problem figured out!
