While Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were hailed by critics for their hosting performance on the Golden Globe Awards, Oscars host Seth MacFarlane didn't fare so well. MacFarlane's hosting performance on the 85th Annual Academy Awards was widely panned by critics despite an increase in ratings. So would Tina Fey host the Oscars next year? According to her, "now way."
The former SNL member and "30 Rock" creator says she doesn't see herself taking the job if it was offered to her. Fey told the Huffington Post, "I just feel like that gig is so hard." Fey also said, "Especially for, like, a woman -- the amount of months that would be spent trying on dresses alone ... no way."
For fans who feel there may still be a chance, Fey made sure they knew, there was no chance. She went as far to say there isn't even a one in a million chance. This is just days after MacFarlane tweeted that there was no way he would come back to host again. Ouch! Nobody is giving the Oscars any love. When one of the "Family Guy' creator's Twitter followers asked if MacFarlane would host again he tweeted, "No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though."
The Oscars, while a dream gig for comedians and entertainment elite, is also one of the toughest sells. It seems most of the time the host gets critically panned. Even the most experience comedians and TV hosts have faced criticism for their performances. Obviously, by the reaction from MacFarlane and Fey's reluctance to host, it's also not very easy. However, for a guy like MacFarlane, who spends most of his time doing voice work for his cartoon characters, it can be huge exposure.
For Tina Fey, she has become such a popular comedic figure who can do no wrong, why risk it? Fey was loved on SNL and has since gone on to create "30 Rock." Now, it's being reported Fey will be bringing "Mean Girls" to Broadway. That's right, the seven time Emmy winner is working on a musical adaption to the hit movie. We will see if Broadway proves to be an easier path than hosting the Oscars.
