Australia is about to be invaded by superheroes and aliens. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop announced on Wednesday that the country has struck deals with both Marvel and 20th Century Fox to be the hosting country for the upcoming films Thor: Ragnarok and Alien: Paradise Lost.
In a press conference, Bishop shared that the two feature films were the products of her efforts on several business trips to the United States. While visiting, she met with several teams to discuss Australia's untapped talent in the film industry. The Foreign Minister met with big names like Disney, Marvel, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Village Roadshow and NBCUniversal while visiting the U.S.

"Australia's creative industries are well placed to take advantage of a growing global economy and I have been actively promoting Australia for the production of major international films," said Bishop.
Both Thor lead Chris Hemsworth and Alien Director Ridley Scott both sent celebratory video messages to the conference, as they were not in attendance. Hemsworth stated that he was, "incredibly excited to be coming back home to work."
The federal government will also prepare for future business deals by investing $47.25 million and can expect a return of $300 million in offshore investment. Locals will also reap benefits, as production will create 3,000 jobs and boost Australian business.
"Australian crews and actors will also gain the skills and experience to further strengthen our capacity to produce high-quality films for Australian and international audiences," said Federal Arts Minister Mitch Fifield at the announcement.
This also won't be the first time the country has put money behind such large productions. In 2014, the Australian government gave Walt Disney Pictures a $21.6 million incentive to help convince them to film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in the country.
