Lincoln Chafee Drops Out of Presidential Race Following CNN Democratic Debate

Well, this isn't really a total shocker, but it's being reported that Democratic hopeful Lincoln Chafee has dropped out of the presidential race. The former Rhode Island governor made the announcement this past Friday, just over a week following his (somewhat dismal) performance at CNN's Democratic debate.

NPR reports that the former governor made the announcement at the Democratic National Committee Women's Leadership Forum, saying, "As you know, I have been campaigning on a platform of Prosperity Through Peace. But after much thought I have decided to end my campaign for president today."

This is the second democratic candidate to drop out of the race in a week, as Jim Webb officially announced the end to his run last week, citing that the Democratic Party he once found himself a part of has changed. To that, Webb could possibly re-enter the race as an independent. Chafee, on the other hand, probably won't.

Just a thought.

Chafee leaving the race has been something has been expected since his performance at the primary democratic debate. During the two-hour show, the then-candidate spoke a total of nine minutes, and found much criticism after he admitted to having not been familiar with a bill he voted to repeal about bank regulations (the Glass-Steagall Act) after he was elected in the Senate just after his father had passed away.

Anderson Cooper wasn't the only going after Chafee. After his debate performance, CNN's Wolf Blitzer delivered a pretty harsh interview with Chafee, even going so far as to asking him when he would consider dropping out.
