Bollywood Star Aamir Khan Working on ‘Mahabharata’ with Mel Gibson?

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has wanted to adapt Mahabharata for a long time. Now, word has it that in the past few months the actor has been talking with Hollywood star Mel Gibson for the project.

Aamir Khan is among those Bollywood actors who always surprises his fans by the choice of films he does. Last year, the Indian film fraternity was in awe when it was announced that Khan will play the role of an alien in PK. These days, Aamir Khan, who is also known as Mr. Perfectionist, is busy with his upcoming film, Dangal, in which he will play the role of a wrestler. Khan's fans have been wondering for a long time which film he will do after this sports drama. If recent reports are true then the Lagaan star is in talks with Mel Gibson for the cinematic adaptation of Indian Epic, Mahabharata.

According to Catch News, after starring in Dangal, Khan will be seen in Mahabharata, which will be the biggest motion picture in India. "Aamir Khan has wanted to make Mahabharata since a long time and he has been in talks with Mel Gibson for the film. Mahabharata will be backed by a big Hollywood studio and will go on floors early 2017," the source added.

The source also revealed that Khan's team has started the pre-production, including the set designing and characters look. According to DNA, the team has already locked the script and everyone is only waiting for Aamir to sign the official contract.

"Mel Gibson has plans to rope in a few more actors from India in the epic saga," the source further added.

It was also reported by India Today in 2012 that Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan, had shown desire to make film on Mahabharata. At that time, it was announced that Shah Rukh will play role of Karna but the same media outlet later reported that Shah Rukh Khan had dropped the idea of making Mahabharata. Shah Rukh said that he was very keen on making the modern day Mahabharata but had to dropped the idea because another Indian Filmmaker was reportedly working on the same project at that time.

"A costume drama takes a lot of time and you need to have a certain look and you have to get into character for a year. As of now I am making my next home production and will also work on Farah's film," the actor further added.

Mel Gibson, 59, is famous for films like Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ and Mad Max. So, if the legendary filmmaker will direct the feature film starring Aamir Khan then it would surely be a good watch.

There is no official statement from Aamir Khan or his representative regarding this mega budget project. It was also reported that Aamir Khan will make a sequel to Lagaan but as it turned out that it was just another rumor. So, there are strong chances that Aamir Khan's collaboration with Mel Gibson might just be another rumor.
