Kaley Cuoco recently tweeted a paid endorsement for the Dish Network despite the fact that the network she works for, CBS, is currently suing the satellite television provider over. The 27-year-old "Big Bang Theory" tweeted, "Amazing! Watching live TV anywhere on the #Hopper looks pretty awesome! Now where can I find a tiny beer? #ad." The advertisement involved tiny beverages mixed with watching programs on smart devices. This went out to her more than 1.2 million followers and included a link to the ad. As soon as the media inquired about the situation and the tweet, it was removed from her account. CBS as well as other networks ABC, FOX and NBC are all suing the Dish network because of its Hopper technology, which allows customers to watch previously aired primetime television shows without any commercials.
The Hopper allows consumers to watch live and recorded television programs whenever and wherever, meaning tablets, iPads, and smart devices are involved. One feature of the Hopper is its "Auto Hop," which disallows commercials and thus brings us to this current lawsuit. It seems like a great product, but the networks make their money through advertisements so here we are. "The Big Bang Theory," of which Cuoco is one of the stars, is one of CBS's biggest hits so having one of the actors tweeted for "the enemy" is not exactly a great thing. Last May, before any litigation began, CBS CEO Les Moonves told stated that he considered the service "illegal." Representatives for Cuoco and CBS have yet to comment on the situation.
Dish is apparently known for "getting under the skin" of networks during conflicts. Obtaining the talents of Kaley is exactly that. Just like any other endorsement, Dish pays celebrities for their tweets. It is an easy way for a celebrity to make money and get involved with different companies. Kaley Cuoco is just one of many who have taken part in the Dish endorsement. Dish spokesman John Hall stated, "We've reached out to several different celebrities and those with influence for sponsored tweets and so I think she's one of many folks. Our goal is to introduce our products and services to consumers. We find people that consumers are paying attention to."
Kaley Cuoco was also recently seen in a Super Bowl advertisement for Toyota and even became a spokeswoman for Priceline in a series of commercials with William Shatner.
