Maybe that shoe-throwing girl was right. Voters for the NME Awards crowned One Direction singer Harry Styles the most evil man in the world last night.

Styles beat out other notable heels David Cameron, Psy, Skrillex, Fred Macpherson and Azealia Banks for the award.

Styles and his band weren't there to accept the award as they just started on their world tour, however, he did tweet his thanks to NME for the recognition.

"And thank you to @NME for my award tonight. Gotta take the rough with the smooth eh?"

The awards, named after the Alternative music magazine, are fan-voted. Styles band One Direction also took top honor's in the"Worst Band" category besting Muse, Alt-J, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber (apparently, there was some confusion among NME readers as to the meaning of the word "band").
