A Florida man went to sleep Thursday night and now Friday he is gone. The ground literally swallowed Jeff Bush when a sinkhole opened up beneath his Tampa home. Jeff's brother Jeremy tried to save him but to no avail. Authorities have not been able to find any signs of life in the sinkhole.

Jeremy Bush called 911 and frantically attempted to pull his brother Jeff from the sinkhole.

"I heard a loud crash, like a car coming through the house," Jeremy told CNN affiliate WFTS. "I heard my brother screaming and I ran back there and tried going inside his room, but my old lady turned the light on and all I seen was this big hole, a real big hole, and all I saw was his mattress."

At around 11pm, Jeremy heard a loud crash and his 36-year-old brother screaming for help. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Jessica Damico told reporters, "When he got there, there was no bedroom left. There was no furniture. All he saw was a piece of the mattress sticking up."

Jeremy reportedly tried to dig his brother out with a shovel until police arrived and pulled him from the still sinking house. Jeremy and four other people were able to escape the one story home, but unfortunately it seems that Jeremy's brother Jeff has been lost.

According to Damico the entire house sits on a sinkhole. Neighbors have been evacuated and officials can't go into the sinkhole because of worries that it's still collapsing. Instead authorities put engineering equipment into the sinkhole and found no signs of life.

Officials would not officially presume Jeff Bush dead, but at this point, the chances seem very slim that he has been able to survive after the sinkhole beneath his house swallowed him beneath the ground.

Jeff's brother Jeremy told WFTS, "I know in my heart he's dead. But I just want to be here for him, because I love him, he was my brother, man."
