The sequester deadline is finally upon us and President Barack Obama has a few choice words for lawmakers whose lack of ability to compromise caused the budget cuts.

Let's be clear: None of this is necessary," Obama said in a press conference to address the sequestration. "It's happening because of a choice that Republicans in Congress have made. We shouldn't be making a series of dumb, arbitrary cuts to things."

The President underlined that he needs the opposition to compromise, reminding the audience that he is  "not a dictator" and can't use a "Jedi mind meld" to make Congressional Republicans see his side of things. (Because he is the POTUS, no one felt the need to point out that Jedis are from Star Wars and mind melds are from Star Trek).

Hitting the deadline means that a series of dramatic spending cuts to government spending might go into effect, possibly harming an already fragile economic recovery in the United States.

"This is not a win for anybody. This is a loss for the American people," Obama said.

Obama met with House Speaker John Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to discuss a possible deal to avert harmful budget cuts. However, those talks appear to have fallen through.
