According to TMZ, the recent kerfuffle between members of Stone Temple Pilots and lead singer/founder Scott Weiland was all a devious plot for the former to sell tickets.
Weiland told the entertainment website, "STP is not broken up. It's a whole thing to try to boost ticket sales."
On Wednesday, members of Stone Temple Pilots released a statement saying simply "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland."
This was news to Weiland, as a matter of fact, he learned about his termination by reading it in the press. Weiland shot back with his own statement expressing his confusion and outrage over being fired from the band he formed in 1986.
"I learned of my supposed 'termination' from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press," Weiland said. "
Not sure how I can be 'terminated' from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that's something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday."
Weiland elaborated to TMZ that without him, STP can not exist at all. There is a clause in the band's contract that stipulates that band members can not use the STP name in any act not involving Weiland.
