A woman saves a bus after the bus driver passes out behind the wheel. The Maryland native, Janai Stafford is now being praised as a "hero" after controlling the wild bus saving everyone on board without even having a driver's license in a Baltimore County on Tuesday afternoon.
"All of a sudden (the bus driver) said, 'Something's not right. I don't feel good. Something's not right,'" Stafford told WBAL-TV. "And then all of a sudden, he passed out all over the wheel."
Stafford was standing next to the driver filled with people including several young children, "I put my foot on his foot. I didn't even know what foot to put," she added. "It just happened. I put my foot on his foot, and I just wrapped my arm around him, and I steered the bus to the right and parked it."
According to KVUE Stafford does not maintain a driver's license, but steered the bus to the side of the road. The driver was later taken to the hospital, treated, and released. He will undergo a medical and fitness exam before controlling heavy machinery. The "hero" admitted that if she hadn't taken control the outcome would have been fatal, "It could have gone onto (Interstate) 695. It could have drifted down Reisterstown Road," she told WBAL.
Stafford later told ABC2, "Everybody's just like, 'You're a hero,' and I'm like, 'No. I'm not,'" she added, "It was instinct."
