Facebook is getting a face lift. The social media network sent the press invites on Friday for a March 7 event to unveil a new look for the website's news feed, the home to users updates on their friends.

Unfortunately Facebook offered little details, so any updates on what the updates might look like are just rumors. This isn't the first time Facebook has made changes to their news feed, in fact, it seems like every couple years the website makes some changes.

In 2009, Facebook introduced real-time news feed letting users know of when there were updates on their friends. The last change Facebook made was in September of 2011 when they introduced a real-time ticker that gave users updates on everything that was going on with their friends through a scrolling menu on the right side of the screen. As recently as last year Facebook users noticed ad's started popping up in their news feeds.

Although there are no details as what the new look will feature, it must be fairly significant changes that are being made if Facebook feels the need to invite the press. Over the next few days leading up to March 7, the media will definitely be speculating as to what changes will take place.

The last event that Facebook hosted was to show off their new search option, its internal Graph Search option. This event could turn out to be very important for the social media networking site. Anytime Facebook makes even the most minor of changes it is met with criticism from Facebook users and speculation from analysts as to the effect on the company's profit.

If Facebook decides to make major changes to its news feed, users will once again likely take time to warm up to the change. In today's age of constantly changing technology and social media use, Facebook is being pressured to keep up with their lofty expectations. Will they deliver March 7?
