Showtime is adding a new cast member to the Season 3 revival of the cult favorite Twin Peaks. With the premiere date set reportedly for 2017, returning alongside Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) will be Agent Albert Rosenfield (Miguel Ferrer).
As we previously mentioned, Twin Peaks followed FBI Agent Dale Cooper as he investigated the mysterious death of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). Unfortunately, the case ended with Dale Cooper possessed by the evil spirit, Bob, and his soul lost in the Black Lodge. David Lynch will be directing every episode of the modern remake.
According to Deadline, another Twin Peaks fan favorite is returning to the latest installment. From the groundbreaking 1990 ABC mystery drama, The Stand actor will reprise his role as FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield. The FBI forensics specialist, Rosenfield, previously arrived in town and butted heads withSheriff Harry S. Truman.
No word yet if this will be a new case for the series or how Rosenfield returns to the plot. Old and new faces have been cast in the upcoming Showtime drama.
Kyle MacLachlan will also reprise his role as the quirky Dale Cooper. Sheryl Lee, who played victim Laura Palmer, is also back. David Patrick Kelly reprises his role as Jerry Horne. New cast member additions include Jennifer Jason Leigh, Robert Knepper, Balthazar Getty and Amanda Seyfried.
According to Variety, creators David Lynch and Mark Frost had originally been targeting a 2016 premiere for the Twin Peaks reboot. This would have coincided with the 25 year anniversary since the end of the original ABC series.
Nostalgic fans have to wait a little bit more as CBS Corp. chief Leslie Moonves stated that the premiere of the limited series has been pushed to 2017. The reasoning behind the move is to drive subscriptions of Showtime's newly launched standalone broadband offering.
Showtime will premiere Twin Peaks sometime in 2017.
