Saturday Night Live came back after a week hiatus and hit hard with the "cold open" sketch, targeting the hot topic of President Obama's Sequester and how it will affect the nation. Cast member Jay Pharoah walked onto the set designed to look like the White House pressroom and received a warm welcome. The 25-year-old impressionist is known for his take on President Obama and is admittedly quite good. "Most Americans don't understand what this whole sequester really means," says Pharoah in a great Obama voice. Clearly, this sketch is going to tackle the whole issue and the resulting job cuts involved with it.
The other cast members including Bill Hader, Keenan Thompson, Kate McKinnon, Jason Sudeikis and Cecily Strong (to name a few) periodically come out during the sketch, representing those affected by the job cuts. The first examples are of an air traffic controller and border patrol. Laughable moments, of course, but as the sketch progresses, the examples become more and more absurd, truly making light of a tense matter. One of the standout sections is when featured player Aidy Bryant comes out to talk about being let go from her job as a Philadelphia teacher. Instead of taking the news negatively, she is happy to leave, saying, "This is the greatest day of my entire life. Good luck reading 'Beowulf,' you monsters!" The sketch also results in a humorous 'Village People' moment. We have provided the clip below. Mstarz recapped this week's Saturday Night Live, hosted by Kevin Hart. Mstarz recently reported on the sequester deadline, stating:

"It's happening because of a choice that Republicans in Congress have made. We shouldn't be making a series of dumb, arbitrary cuts to things."
The President underlined that he needs the opposition to compromise, reminding the audience that he is "not a dictator" and can't use a "Jedi mind meld" to make Congressional Republicans see his side of things. (Because he is the POTUS, no one felt the need to point out that Jedis are from Star Wars and mind melds are from Star Trek).
Hitting the deadline means that a series of dramatic spending cuts to government spending might go into effect, possibly harming an already fragile economic recovery in the United States.
"This is not a win for anybody. This is a loss for the American people," Obama said.
