Tori Spelling has penned a response to tabloid Star Magazine's claim that the actress and husband Dean McDermott are in the midst of a divorce.
On her blog ediTORIal, Spelling trashes the Star's newsgathering ability, inferring that the magazine "writes whatever story they want and repeatedly use the generic word "sources" to add an air of legitimacy."
The Beverly Hills 90210 star claims she came across the magazine, as most of us do, in the supermarket. She says her 5-year-old son saw Liam the pictures of his mother and father on the cover and sounded out the word "divorce" and the question "Who will get the kids?"
The child understandably panicked and Spelling says she was forced to hustle her children out of the grocery store. Once in the car, Spelling claims her son began to ask "Why is someone getting us?? Where are you and Dad going?" and as the boy began to cry Spelling grappled with how to explain tabloids to him.
Spelling says she's developed "a pretty thick skin" since bursting onto the scene at the age of 16. However, she claims the same can't be said of her young children. She had to reassure them that "[Star] magazine doesn't know us. Daddy and I are very happy and in love. There will be no divorce and all of us will remain together as a family."
She ended the letter by directly addressing the magazine in the last two paragraphs and openly challenging them.
"You want to make inaccurate low blows at someone Star?" Spelling said. "Go for me! I can handle it. I always have. But don't do it to a man that has done nothing but loved me and our children."
Spelling said that she knows this story will blow over and next week Star will be talking about someone else, but she ends by explaining to Star writers that "our children should never have to bear witness to lies and fabrications that affect their lives so that a media outlet can make money. That will always be wrong!"
What do you think of Spelling taking a stand against Star? Will you continue to purchase the magazine?
