Who would even think to have Carly Rae Jepsen and Nine Inch Nails in the same sentence let alone in a mash-up together? But here we are. British artist pomDeterrific somehow thought to merge these two polar-opposite sounds into one song and has caught a lot of attention in doing so. When I first found this track, I figured it would be the pop vocals over the strange industrial rock sound. Nope. Trent Reznor is singing over the backing track of 2012's most popular song. It is oddly addictive and has been spreading around the Internet like wildfire.

I feel that Gawker commenter, Seanibus, asked the most relevant question in regards to this mash-up: "Genius. But what kind of headspace do you need to be in to even THINK of such a thing?"

Other comments on the actual SoundCloud clip (which you can see pop up as the song plays) include:

"Super creepy!"

"The Chorus is the best"

"Ha Amazing!"

"This is seriously fantastic"

Mash-ups are generally a "hit-or-miss" niche concept in music. There are artists like Girl Talk, who have made careers out of the skill but it others fall at the wayside. Even artists like Jay-Z have been involved in this area of music. The Black and Blue Album merged the rapper's Black Album with rock band Weezer's Blue Album. It was very interesting and very well received. Jay also had his raps put on top of Radiohead's music for Jaydiohead. Again, this mash-up was a success. But now that most self-proclaimed producers have access to separate tracks off of masters, there are countless mash-ups circulating.

Luckily, "Call Me a Hole" is a homerun in terms of mash-ups. The two artists could not be more different and it just comes together. Check out pomDeterrifc's other tunes on his SoundCloud.
