Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band are set to headline London's Hard Rock Calling festival just one year after being cut off due to violating the noise curfew. Springsteen and company invited Sir Paul McCartney on stage around 11 pm, 30 minutes over the 10:30 pm curfew. With the help of the former Beatle, the audience was treated to "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Twist and Shout" before the legendary singers had their microphones turned off in order to let them know that the show was over. This year, however, the festival will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which has an 11pm curfew.
After last year's silencing, E Street guitarist Steve Van Zandt reflected on being cutting off, saying:
"Is there just too much fun in the world? We would have been off by 11 if we'd done one more. On a Saturday night! Who were we disturbing?... I'm sorry but I have to be honest I'm pissed. Like I said, it didn't ruin the great night. But when I'm jamming with McCartney don't bug me!"
He also added a bunch of stuff about how Britain had become a "police state" and London mayor Boris Johnson criticized "an excessively efficacious decision."
The promoters for the Hard Rock Calling festival have since lost their contract with for concerts in Hyde Park and are happy to start a new relationship with the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It looks like Bruce is also looking past last year's fiasco since he has signed on to another show taking place on June 30th. No word on whether or not McCartney will return for another guest appearance considering last time was cut short.
Also appearing at this year's London Hard Rock Calling event will be Kasabian, Paul Weller, The Black Crowes, The Alabama Shakes and Klaxons, to name a few.
