During a Lamb of God concert in Prague back in 2010, rocker Randy Blythe was accused of pushing a Czech Republic fan from the stage - the young man hit his head on the hard concrete and died from sustained injuries two weeks later. A Prague court ultimately charged Blythe with manslaughter, or causing bodily harm to another person with lethal consequences. Blythe was detained in the Czech Republic back in June and finally released and allowed to return to the States in August. But Blythe recently flew back to the European country to fight the manslaughter charges in-person - reports confirm that the heavy metal vocalist had since been acquitted by the Prague court. And Blythe's initially response to the verdict - "I am a free man."
As Mstarz originally reported:
The heavy metal band Lamb of God was forced to cancel their summer tour with Dethklok in July because they were attempting to secure bail for vocalist Randy Blythe, who was imprisoned in the Czech Republic in June 2012 and pinned with manslaughter charges.
Blythe's manslaughter charges are the result of a death which took place at a Lamb of God show at Club Abaton in Prague in 2010. During the show Blythe allegedly shoved a local fan - identified as 19-year-old Daniel Nosek - off stage. The man reportedly suffered a brain hemorrhage leaving him comatose which resulted in his death 14 days later. Blythe did not know that there was a warrant out for his arrest. He then spent five weeks in custody before being released back to the US on bail in August.
Blythe issued a public statement on Tuesday (March 5) explaining why decided to return to the Czech Republic to fight the manslaughter charges in person:
"It would be absolutely intolerable for me to hide from this situation. I am an innocent man, but a family suffers the loss of a son, a fan of my band. That is what this whole thing is truly about, not prison, not money, not politics, not ME - it is about a young man who lost his life at just 19 years of age. He will never come back, & it breaks my heart.
I would not be able to sleep at night knowing that I did not behave honorably & try to give his family some answers. That would be disgraceful, and I do not wish to dishonor myself or my family by acting in such a cowardly manner. I was raised to face my problems head on."
And it looks like Blythe did manage to prove his innocence.
Blythe, who faced five years in prison if convicted, posted this message on Instagram following the court hearing:
"I have been found not guilty & acquitted of all charges against me. I am a free man." He also asked fans to pray for Nosek's family. "I only wish for them peace. Thank you for your support."
A court spokesperson recently confirmed the acquittal to the Associated Press. The prosecutor in the case has appealed the verdict.
