Patti LaBelle Needs More Sweet Potatoes to Produce Pies for the Holidays

Looks like Patti LaBelle's sweet potato pies may not be at your families table for Thanksgiving if you haven't already purchased one. According to Hip Hollywood, LaBelle is going to need more potatoes to produce more of her pies for the upcoming holidays.

After James Wright Chanel's video of him eating her pies went viral, he helped the singer's new product become a must-have item last week in Walmart.

According to Yahoo, John Forrest Ales, a rep for Walmart revealed that the diva's pie was selling by the second. "For 72 hours, we were selling one per second," Ales explained. If you know how to count that's $3.48 a pie, which would probably be around $1 million in sales within 72 hours.

Walmart.com pointed out that the pie was the most-visited food product online right now. One Walmart worker claimed that they couldn't keep up with customers asking for the product. Instead of putting the dates and prices on the pie, she just handed them to anxious customers who wanted their taste of the pie.

Ales revealed that a supplier was struggling to get more sweet potatoes, noting that they have put in a request for 2 million sweet potatoes!

“Friday morning, the team was working with the [sweet potato pie] supplier to see how we can keep up with the demand,” Ales described. “The supplier… was having a hard time finding [enough] sweet potatoes. So we walked down the hall to the produce department [and said,] ‘We need about 2 million pounds of California sweet potatoes!’ So that’s what we’ve been working through.”

MStars News previously reported that LaBelle personally reached out to Chanel after his viral video boosted pie sales. He said, “She kept thanking me and she kept telling me how much she loved me. She kept telling me to be me. She was like ‘Boy, you can sang!’”

We wonder is LaBelle will be giving him some of that profit? Walmart has already invited Chanel to one of the local stores. It's unclear is they will be using him for future commercial promotions, or marketing ideas.

MStars News also called our local Walmarts to see when more pies were going to be available. A Walmart employee told us that it would be a while due to the warehouse.
