After President Barack Obama reportedly "attacked" GOP presidential hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz over his proposal regarding Syrian refugees, it looks as if the latter is ready to throw down—debate style! The Texas senator has officially challenged the President to a debate to hash out their differences.
The challenge comes after the President allegedly labeled Cruz's plan to allow to the United States only Syrian Christians, but not Muslims from Syria, as "shameful."
Cruz's reasoning, it seems, is that we do not know whether or not the "tens of thousands" of Muslim refugees coming in from Syria have ties with ISIS or some other Islamic extremist group; therefore, he feels the best bet is to not let them in.
According to President Obama, however, the United States does not "have religious tests to our compassion."
After hearing the comments from the President, Sen. Cruz told NBC News that he finds it "fairly remarkable" that he's been called both "offensive" and "un-American" by the current POTUS. "I think that's really quite rich that he chose to make both of those insults on foreign soil," Cruz said.
He called the comments directed at him and the Republican Party, as well as President Obama's denial of his plan for Syrian refugees, "unbefitting of a President."
And that's when he dropped the D bomb:
"Mr. President, if you want to insult me, you can do it overseas, you can do it in Turkey, you can do it in foreign countries, but I would encourage you, Mr. President, come back and insult me to my face."
Cruz then called for the debate, noting, "Let's have a debate on Syrian refugees right now. We can do it anywhere you want."
Of course, he did say that he'd rather do it somewhere in the United States.
