After scaring everyone at the forbidden Camp Crystal Lake, masked serial killer Jason Voorhees slashes his way through in Friday The 13th: The Game. Developer Gun Media has released the Pre-Alpha gameplay footage after reaching their Kickstarter campaign goals.
As we previously mentioned, Friday the 13th: The Game has opted for an online multiplayer mode rather than a single-player campaign. One player during each match will play the role of iconic killer Jason Voorhees, while the camp counselors, including the final girl, have to take him down. Make-up effects Tom Savini and stuntman/actor Kane Hodder, who played Jason in the franchise, are also part of the team working on the game.
In an interview with Forbes, series creator/producer/director Sean S. Cunningham describes his interest in the horror game, "There's a reason why other publishers are trying to tap into the survival and horror gaming genres. As I said earlier the ability to really create tense and terrifying moments that a gamer can not only experience but control makes this a great area to mine for gaming. Marrying those goals with a truly iconic character and situation is really the best of both worlds all wrapped into one."
According to PlayStation Lifestyle, the game's Kickstarter campaign met its original funding goal of $700,000. Now with more backers than expected, three additional stretch goals have been unlocked. With the additional funding, the developers are working on a mirror smash environmental kill, a 3D head crush kill complete with an eyeball pop-out, and the notoriously deadly "Rip Your Heart Out" move.
In celebration of reaching its own Kickstarter goals, Gun Media released a pre-alpha/prototype footage of the game, Be mindful that this game in its earliest stages. Most of the features or content, including the the artwork, sound effects, and environment that you see aren't complete yet.
Friday the 13th: The Game will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in the Fall 2016.
