Jenny McCarthy, who starred as the love interest of Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men, has called out her former co-star for keeping his HIV diagnosis a secret. The former Playboy model, who is the host of Dirty, Sexy, Funny on SiriusXM, believes Sheen was wrong for not divulging the information while starring on the sitcom.
On Wednesday, McCarthy said Sheen should have disclosed his condition because he had physical contact with actresses on the set of the CBS sitcom.
McCarthy said on her show, "I feel like, in playing a love interest, you would think there would be some type of, I don’t want to say criminal issue, but I don’t even know how to feel about that".
The 43-year-old blonde beauty, who's married to Donnie Wahlberg, realizes HIV isn't transmitted from kissing, but felt Sheen should have been upfront with the information.
McCarthy adds, "I was like, 'Wait a second. If I have to be upfront about a herpe, how could you not be upfront about HIV?' I look back and I’m like, 'Okay, that would have been some valuable information.' I mean, look, how many people have played his love interest on the show?"
The actress appeared in eight episodes of Two and a Half Men with Sheen, last appearing in 2011.
Sheen's manager, Mark Burg, addressed McCarthy's remarks, stating, "Charlie was infected long after he left Two and a Half Men and long after he worked with Jenny".
During Sheen's interview with Matt Lauer on Tuesday, Sheen revealed he'd been diagnosed with HIV "roughly four years ago".
McCarthy also stated during her radio show that she had always insisted on her sex partner being tested for HIV before becoming intimate.
She explained, "I wouldn't sleep with anyone until I got the right paperwork, so even playing his love interest on the show back in the day, I go like, 'Ick, ugh, that's not fair and scary.'"
McCarthy did add that she feels badly that Sheen is sick, but added, "Man, he’s going to have to take some major accountability with many people in his life."
