As the 2016 presidential election comes closer and closer, Republicans are waking up to the realization that Donald Trump could very well be their nominee. Because of that, and his recent soaring poll numbers, they've reportedly begun pushing, and begging, Mitt Romney to run for President.
Unfortunately, for them, it doesn't look like he's too interested.
On a recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the CBS host delivered a terrifying revelation unto his audience: that given Trump's new numbers in a Reuters/Ipsos poll, "Trump now captures 42 percent of...Republicans likely to cast votes in the party's presidential primary," per Reuters.
Feeling as if both Trump and Dr. Ben Carson came and "hijacked" the presidential race, several news outlets note that the GOP is now freaking out at the fact that an outsider could very well become the next Republican presidential nominee.
Colbert noted that as the primary vote draws nearer, the Republicans are "desperate" and looking for a "very white knight" – which of course means Romney.
"Frankly, I had no idea he wasn't in this race," Colbert joke, speaking of the large number of Republican candidates currently still in the race.
Alas, sadly, despite the party's incessant nudging, it doesn't look as if Romney will be their savior, as he's repeatedly said that he has no interest in running yet again for the POTUS seat.
"I put the chances at somewhere between zero and nil," he said.
The primary vote will apparently be here in "the blink of an eye," according to the Washington Post. And as Colbert noted, "Ben Carson is already halfway through that blink."
If Trump should take both Iowa and New Hampshire in the primary, it looks as if the GOP will have their 2016 presidential candidate – Donald J. Trump.
Oh boy...
