The Karadashians have a lot to be thankful for this Holiday season, as they have had some scary incidents happen to them over the last couple of months and yet survived them all. One of which being Lamar Odom's health crisis, and hospital battle after a bender at a Las Vegas brothel. While the former Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and Khloe Kardashian's estranged husband has made progress in his recuperation, it still seems that he has a long way to go, and even then he might never be the same as he once was.

While the former Los Angeles Lakers basketball player is steadily getting better, there are some in the medical field that don't think that Odom will ever be back to his old self.

According to People, a source explained that the 36-year-old athlete is still suffering daily due brain injury because his brain suffered a loss of oxygen from the multiple strokes after his overdose.

"Lamar has made some progress, but his cognitive impairment is making life very challenging," the insider explained according to Fox8.

People is reporting that Odom has trouble walking alone, and that he often has trouble communicating verbally to others. These are all symptoms of oxygen deprivation during the strokes that were caused by his drug overdose.

The future also looks scary for the star as he is reportedly going to need fulltime help for the foreseeable future even once he leaves the hospital.  "Lamar won't likely leave the hospital for a long time," the insider explained of his condition. "And when he does, he will need full time care. He can't take care of himself. Lamar has serious long term and lasting issues. His life will never be the same as it once was."

However, Khloe Kardashian is still optimistic about Odom's recovery, as she spoke out to Today revealing that she has been told that there is still hope for his recovery.

"He is learning how to walk again and learning ... cognitive therapy and speech therapy," the star explained. "They think, like, within a year and a half to two years that, mentally, he might be fully recovered. But they don't know."
