How strange, another story about Donald Trump, huh? But believe it or not, this one isn't really about something offensive the GOP frontrunner has said. Well, sort of. It's being reported that a new attack ad from Republican hopeful John Kasich has linked The Donald with Nazi Germany.
Per a report from The Huffington Post, Gov. Kasich's campaign released a video on Tuesday that links Trump with one of the most horrific groups in the world's history.
Titled "Trump's Dangerous Rhetoric," Kasich's video shows retired Air Force Col. Tom Moe speaking in Columbus, Ohio before Trump was set to appear. In the video, Moe discusses comments from pastor Martin Niemöller, a man who spent years in concentration camps and has spoke publicly against the Nazi Party. With that, Moe equates much of Niemöller's comments with what Trump is doing.
He says:
"You might not care if Donald Trump says Muslims must register with the government, because you're not one. And you might not care if Donald Trump says he's going to round up all the Hispanic immigrants, because you're not one."
He further claims that if Trump "keeps going" with his comments – you know, like saying that "thousands" of people cheered in Jersey City as the towers went down or that blacks kill whites at a rate of 81% (not true) – then he "might just get around to you and you better hope that there's someone left to help you."
His comments are strikingly similar to Niemöller's regarding the Nazi regime, which follow the same "you might not care, because you're not one" phrasing in regards to socialists, trade unionists and the Jews. Niemöller's speech ends with:
"Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out––because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me––and there was no one left to speak for me."
So, thoughts?
