For those who want to be completely spoiler-free come Dec. 18 when Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released, well, there's an app for that.
In the age of the Internet, it can be hard to go into a movie without already knowing next to everything about the film. A seemingly innocuous search is sometimes all it takes to reveal too much information. Now, a new extension for Google Chrome, the Star Wars Spoiler Blocker extension, is vowing to keep any and all details about the film at bay for those who prefer to remain blissfully ignorant.
The blocker works by utilizing the famous Star Wars scrolling text at the top of the page to warn users that potential spoilers lie ahead. Users then have the option to proceed or click away. The warning will fill the page instead of the actual content.
The extension is created by Alex Jumašev and Max Al Farakh of Jitbit, and can be downloaded in the Chrome store.
The app is supposed to work if Star Wars is mentioned anywhere in the content. And though some find the app to be "a bit overzealous," it could not have come at a more perfect time, as major spoilers were potentially leaked earlier this week by star Mark Hamill on Twitter.
A new teaser featuring the film's villain, Kylo Ren, was also released this week, offering fans their first real glimpse of the character, as well as another good look at his fancy new lightsaber.
And while most fans gobble this stuff up, not everyone wants to be so spoiled going into the theater. Director J.J. Abrams, for his part, hopes audiences will "see something that hasn't been completely ruined for them by having read spoilers they might not have wanted to read."
With the Star Wars Spoiler Blocker, that shouldn't be a problem.
