Facebook promised an announcement on March 7 and we got one. Thursday at Facebook's headquarters, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a new look for Facebook's news feed, giving it a whole new feel. The new look will be a mobile-inspired design across various devises that will allow users to delve into specific content feeds, while also offering larger images. Facebook also announced changes to their photo albums, as they will make up nearly 50% of news feed stories.

The changes are starting as soon as today and Facebook will slowly roll them out over time. Users will likely have plenty of complaints at first, but Facebook is hoping that a more consistent feel to Facebook, across various mobile platforms will appease users.

At the press conference Thursday Zuckerberg said, "The news feed is one of the most important things we've built." The Facebook co-founder went on to say, "How we're all sharing is changing and the news feed needs to evolve with those changes. This is the evolving face of news feed."

According to Mashable, the new news feed will feature bigger images, multiple feeds, and mobile consistency. Facebook is adapting it's news feed to compete with other social media networks, while staying consistent with what users clearly want. The popularity of Instagram has likely shown Zuckerberg the need to focus on photo'a lot more.

According to Tech Crunch, Facebook's multiple news feeds will be sorted by how often you check them. Among the news feed options are all friends, music, photos, following, games, close friends, and any of your interest or friends lists. Other changes according to Tech Crunch include more vivid picture posts from Pinterest, larger maps for when you check in at places, larger videos, and more "trending" content that will be made available to users.
