Singer Trey Songz wrote a heartfelt letter to be included with his new album To Whom It May Concern, as a gift to fans on his 31st birthday on Nov. 28th. And interestingly, he confessed to being human, just like them!
The letter's opening paragraph details a tale of two men, Trey Songz and Tremaine, who is sharing his life with everyone, while trying not to loose himself. He wrote, "As happy as I am, a big part of me feels empty sometimes. Music gives me a piece back." The letter seems to give a hint of what the concept of the new music is about, as the singer mentions that he's looking forward to releasing the new mix tape.
In part, the "Slow Motion" singer expressed in the letter, "Every lyric a reflection of where I am within a specific emotion. I am going through some sh*t, just like we all do. I look in the mirror and I judge myself just like we all do. I want to make it to be the better version of myself. I played this tape for a friend and she said it was dark. My brightest days and my darkest hours came through in my music...."
The full version of the note can be read at Billboard. While Songz wasn't specific about what dark hours he has gone through. but surely the brighter days are truly ahead, if fans purchase the music.
Lately, cranking out mixed tapes seem to be a cost effective outlet for some musicians, since it allows them to release new music that doesn't require the full backing of their recording labels and the use of marketing dollars. At the same time, it also keeps them current with fans. Single, "Blessed" was produced by Mano and producers Rico Love, DJ Mustard and others are featured on the mix tape, according to Vibe.
Happy birthday Tre, if Twitter is the fan meter, your listeners appreciate the birthday treat!
