Reports confirm that the popular 1980s metal band Motley Crue had to cut their Sydney, Australia concert short on Sunday (March 10) after rocker Vince Neil was forced to exit the stage due to "severe pain." The 52-year-old lead vocalist is currently suffering from kidney stones, and the condition got so bad on Sunday that he was unable to finish the band's set at Allphones Arena. Several fellow Crue members took to Twitter to apologize to Australia fans for the inconvenience - Neil is scheduled to undergo surgery to remove the kidney stones sometime soon.
Motley Crue is currently touring Australia with fellow rockers Kiss and Thin Lizzy. The band was playing a second gig in Sydney on Sunday when Neil started experiencing the severe kidney pain:
Neil left the stage and was rushed to the emergency room. Apparently he'd been suffering from pain the past few days, but things got so unbearable that he finally needed to seek medical attention. The "Wild Side" rockers' manager recently told CNN that Neil "will be going into surgery to remove the kidney stones."
Motley Crue founder Nikki Sixx tweeted this message after having to cut the Sydney show short:
@NikkiSixx: "Sorry Sydney for a short set tonight but Vince had to be rushed to the hospital for internal pain. Will update you on his progress."
Guitarist Mick Mars also tweeted:
@mrmickmars: "Sydney, my apologies for a short set this evening. Vince had an attack of kidney stones. He went straight from stage to the hospital."
The band's manager went on to tell CNN, "Vince is a warrior, who has played shows through a wide ranging list of injuries. If there is a way to safely perform, he always does. In nearly 20 years of managing Motley Crue, I can't recall a show the band has canceled."
Current members of Motley Crue include: Neil, Sixx, Mars and drummer Tommy Lee.
A kidney stone (also known as a renal calculus or "pebble" is a solid concretion or crystal aggregation formed in the kidneys from dietary minerals in the urine. Although most stones cause no symptoms and can pass naturally, those that grow to significant size can cause severe pain and sometimes require medical attention.
Crue is next scheduled to perform on Tuesday, March 12.
