'Daily Show': Jon Stewart Asks Congress to "End the F*ckery" on 9/11 First Responders Bill

The once-upon-a-time king returned to his castle last night on Comedy Central. Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart appeared on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah to discuss the James Zadroga Act, which gives healthcare to 9/11 first responders. Stewart appeared on the show with first responder Kenny Specht and pleaded Congress to "end the f*ckery" once and for all.

Stewart has been a longtime supporter of 9/11 first responders ever since the horrific attack on New York City back in 2001. On Tuesday night, he asked Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Sen. Mitch McConnell to pull together to support the Zadroga Act, which expired and is quickly running out of money.

Noah kicked off the below segment discussing the Zadroga Reauthorization Act, "which gives permanent healthcare to 9/11 first responders injured or sick through their work at Ground Zero." Saying that it seems like a "no brainer," Stewart further detailed what's holding the bill back:

"It really comes down to the two individuals who really control Congress," he said, citing both Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell – the former of whom he believes will do the right thing because "ultimately he is still human."

As far as the Senate majority leader, well, he isn't so sure...

Despite the fact that Sen. McConnell has backed a similar bill in the past, his reluctance to support the Zadroga Reauthorization Act has been apparent for quite some time, and instead of meeting with Stewart and the first responders, he's been an obstacle for the group.

Last week, however, several first responders, including Specht, met with Sen. McConnell, who gave them his word that he would "fully fund and permanently extend the Zadroga Healthcare Act."

With both Stewart and Specht appearing on last night's Daily Show, the hope is to keep McConnell to his word – and pray that he doesn't just care about politics.
