D.C. Police say that 11 people have been hurt as a result of a drive-by shooting on a crowded corner Monday night.

The drive-by shooting occurred at 2:10 a.m. in front of the notoriously troubled Tyler House, a subsidized apartment complex that continues to be a hotspot of gun violence, even as the surrounding Northwest D.C. neighborhood has been revitalized.

One man was shot in the back and considered seriously wounded, but none of injuries sustained by the 11 victims are considered life-threatening. According to the Metro police department, two women were shot in the leg, another woman was hit in the arm and the leg, one man was shot in the foot, another man was shot in the rear and a 17-year-old male sustained a shot to the hand.

Everybody was screaming," Jonique Douglas told the Washington Post. Douglas had just come out of the nearby Fur Nightclub and was standing in front of Tyler House when the shots rang out. Douglas, along with others, began punching and kicking the locked door to Tyler House in an attempt to get under cover.

"They shooting like directly at us," she said. "It coulda been a bloody mess."

Police had to scramble to interview witnesses as they were scattered throughout three area hospitals. As of press time, no motive for the shooting has been determined. However Commander Andy Solberg attributed the violence to the nearby clubs in an interview with the Washington Post.

When the clubs close "a whole lot of people with cash in their pockets come out onto the street, and the guys from Tyler House are waiting for them. That's when you get the holdups and that's the source of the shootings in the neighborhood."

You won't get the violence down as much as you'd like until you do something about Tyler House," Solberg continued

Police say the video shows that a dark BMW and a light grey or silver sedan were involved in the shooting. They are offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any persons involved in the shooting.
