Rapper Bun B (Bernard Freeman) joins Killer Mike (Render), Lil B and Scarface in endorsing Bernie Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination, Fader Magazine reports. Bun B announced his pick on the debut episode of Sonzala's "Hip Hop for Bernie Sanders" podcast, which debuted Wednesday.
Bun told Fader, "I'm trying to let other people know from the hip-hop that it's OK to voice their opinion about the candidates. It's important to start stating your opinion and choosing a side very early now."
The conversation lasted 30 minutes, and touch on Donald Trump, the "trap" of college loans, how musicians cope with depression and anxiety, and the decriminalization of marijuana, the publication reported.
Bun also spoke about incarceration in America. "Right now we have so many people locked up for marijuana, even in states where it's legal. That's insane to me. There's a lot that we need to start correcting. A lot of artists are afraid to voice their opinion on certain things. At the end of the day you have to decide what's important to you."
Sanders, a senator from Vermont, will face fellow Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Martin O'Malley at the Iowa caucuses in February.
The rapper also had some choice words about Republican candidate Donald Trump. "You can be a billionaire and not have to be a monster like Donald Trump," Bun said, according to Billboard.
Bun sent out a tweet in which he stood firm behind his decision for Sanders for president. "I'll never be afraid to show who I stand with and what I stand for. I'll never be afraid to choose a side. They don't scare me 1 bit. #Trill."

The Washington Post reports, "Better known as Killer Mike, Render is another popular rapper who has flirted with running for a legislative seat in Georgia. Among other praise, Render said Sanders's policy positions, which focus on social justice, line up with those of Jesus Christ."

Support from the hip-hop community will boost Sanders' standing with the younger African-American demographic.
