Ed Sheeran is "buggering off" of social media, he told fans via Facebook Sunday. The "Thinking Out Loud" crooner has had a very busy the "last five years" and is taking the time out to see "everything [he] missed."
He posted a letter explaining the move to his fans, saying:
"Hello all. I'm taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while. I've had such an amazing ride over the last five years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I'm taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed. To my family and friends, if you love me you will understand me buggering off for a bit, to my fans, the 3rd album is on it is way and is the best thing I have made thus far."
The star finishes the letter promising he'll be back "next autumn" and thanking his fans for their understanding.
The British singer has had a busy few years. He just wrapped promoting his album, x, which he's been promoting since 2014.
This year, Sheeran performed his hit "Thinking Out Loud" at the 2015 Grammys, where he was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, Album of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media.
It was recently announced that he is also being nominated for three awards at the 2016 Grammys for "Thinking Out Loud."
Music streaming service Spotify has been a huge winner for the star as well. The platform said Sheeran was their most-played artist of 2014, but this year, Spotify is saying he is "the most-played artist of all time," with 3 billion streams and counting, not to mention 59 million listeners.
The leave of absence from social media comes on the heels of a very busy season for Sheeran, indeed. However, it sounds like he will be back just in time to promote and tease his "best thing" yet – album #3!
