David Lee Roth is no stranger to radio. He was the guy who took over for Howard Stern after the legendary shock jock left terrestrial radio for satellite. However, Roth's stay on morning radio didn't last long. Now "Diamond Dave" is making his mark as a radio guest alerting fans of Van Halen news. Roth was on SiriusXM's "Opie and Anthony" show when he revealed to fans that the band would probably play as many as 60 tour dates on the European leg of their tour.
The rock band will reportedly be touring the U.K. and Europe starting at the end of 2013. Roth told Opie and Anthony, "Van Halen is very pure and uncut kind of music. It's lead, bass, drums and howling at the moon. It's a little like getting drunk on shots of really good Kentucky bourbon... You'll have a great night, but you probably won't want to see us again for three years."
Van Halen is no stranger to controversy and this news comes not long after Roth told Rolling Stone Magazine in an exclusive phone interview that he was frustrated with the lack of movement on new material and tour dates. Well when "Diamond Dave" speaks apparently someone was listening.
The band hasn't visited Europe since 1998 when they made a few appearances with Extreme singer Gary Cherone. Van Halen last toured the U.K. with Sammy Hagar in 1995 and they haven't toured the U.K. with Roth since 1984.
Van Halen, despite their massive popularity, seems to be stuck in a never ending soap opera with Roth and Sammy Hagar. Last summer they canceled their U.S. summer tour because of a tour schedule that proved to be too lofty. However, there were rumors that there was once again turmoil within the band.
When the band is able to put aside there differences, they produce popular rock music that still has thousands clamoring of fans. Their 2012 comeback album "A Different Kind of Truth" was met with critical acclaim.
