PR Consulting has definitely changed the game. In the beginning of December, they sent out an email notifying their current clients - Versace and Vera Wang - friends and media that they have taken on a new client, Grindr, WWD reports. If you are not too familiar with the app, it was founded in 2009 by Joel Simkhai and has been downloaded by the like of Marc Jacobs.
Grindr is a popular location-based app for gay and bisexual men. What happens after the initial meeting is up to them.
Page Six reports that PR Consulting's clients already include Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Versace, and Vera Wang.
This arrangement might seem quite odd, but PR Consulting principals, Pierre Rougier and Sylvie Picquet-Damesme, informed Page Six that Simkhai reached out to them for representation. "Our roster is vast, covering hotels, fashion, beauty, culinary and e-commerce.' They said, adding they were particularly intrigued by Grindr for the Equality program to raise awareness for gay rights."

Previously, Grindr's PR was handled in-house. The company, in a little over four years, has managed to acquire over 5 million active users and is entirely self-funded, according to WWD.
So why choose to hire-out now?
Landis Smithers, vice president of marketing at Grindr told WWD, "As Grindr grows its global network and expands into new areas, we wanted to find a partner that would both understand our vision for a more connected world and push us to think differently about how we speak to our users. While we knew PR Consulting might seem unexpected to some, their approach has always been highly creative, responsive and pro-active. We are thrilled that they also understand and embrace the vision we are developing."
In related news, back in October, fashion designer, Marc Jacobs hosted a 10-person orgy courtesy of Grindr. Once the press was alerted, Page Six writer Maureen Callahan covered the story. Jacobs came for her life on Instagram in a few nasty posts, according to WWD.
