Get ready "Dumb and Dumber" fans because it sounds like the sequel to the Farrelly brothers classic could be back on with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels returning as Lloyd and Harry. Jim Carrey spoke to E! Online at SXSW and told them he and Daniels are "raring to go." Better yet, Carrey said he would love to have "Amazing Spider Man" beauty Emma Stone in "Dumb and Dumber 2."
The film's sequel was first announced last April to the excitement of fans. However, last summer the movie seemed to be in jeopardy after Jim Carrey had reportedly backed out. Movie fans my remember the 2003 movie "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd," that tried to recreate the success from the 1993 film but failed without Carrey, Daniels, and the Farrelly brothers' involvement. Once reports hit that Carrey and Daniels were supposed to reprise their roles in a sequel, comedy fans couldn't wait.
Now word is "Dumb and Dumber 2" has an official title, "Dumb and Dumber To." Yup, that seems perfect for the film's sequel. Now all fans need is confirmation that the film is getting made with Carrey and Daniels back in their starring roles.
Carrey told E! at the SXSW Austin, TX film festival, "I'm ready. There is a script. It's fun. Jeff and I are raring to go." However, director Peter Farrelly told EW back in January that they were still in negotiations to try and make the film happen. "It's not a firm greenlight yet because there are still negotiations happening, but that's what we'd like to do next. We have a script that's really, really fun." Carrey confirmed this to E! when he was asked what the hold up for the film was. "It's administrative. The green light committees have to have their way."
At the very least it looks like the Farrelly's, Carrey, and Daniels are all on board for "Dumb and Dumber To." The movie studio would be foolish to pass up on an opportunity to create a sequel to the 1994 comedy hit with all the original members returning.
It also seems like Peter Farrelly and Carrey would love to have Emma Stone and Channing Tatum join the film if they had their way. Farrelly recently said in a Reddit AMA session that he would like to see Tatum in the sequel, while Stone would "knock it ouf of the park" in the role of a "young dumb girl." When asked about the possibility of Tatum and Stone being the sequel Carrey said, "That would be great. That would be awesome."
Yes, that would be awesome.
