WWE will present the December 14, 2015 episode of Monday Night Raw from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, and the episode will feature all the fallout from last night's TLC pay-per-view. So what's next for Roman Reigns, Triple H, and Sheamus? We've got a full preview for you, so let's dive into it.
Last night, WWE finally, finally, got it right with Roman Reigns, and in front of a hostile crowd, no less. The Boston crowd couldn't have cared less when Reigns and Sheamus started their TLC match. Hell, they chanted "We Want Cena" at one point!
But as the chants of "CM Punk" and "Daniel Bryan" and "NXT" rang through the TD Garden, the two combatants just continued to do their work. They easily could have just rolled over and let the crowd dominate the end of the show, but instead they gave up their bodies and put on a hellacious match. By the end of it, the crowd was cheering for Reigns as he climbed the ladder and tried to grab the belt.
That would have been enough, but then The League of Nations came out and held Reigns back long enough for Sheamus to recapture his belt. It looked like we were headed for another underwhelming pay-per-view ending, but then it happened. A year of frustration that had been building within Reigns finally boiled over.
First it was Seth Rollins. Then Bray Wyatt. Then Sheamus. Then Triple H. Every time Reigns got within an inch of the title, someone ripped it out of his hands.
So he snapped.
He speared Sheamus, Rusev, and Alberto Del Rio all at once. He grabbed a chair and walloped all three men, then tenderized the champion like a piece of steak. Triple H rushed to the ring with a bunch of referees to calm Reigns, and it worked only for a moment before he grabbed the chair again and decided to go to work on Hunter while his wife, Stephanie McMahon, had to watch it all.
Even THAT would have been plenty, but it just kept going. Reigns powerbombed Triple H onto the Spanish announce table, but it didn't give. So he decided to manifest his new "Eff This" attitude and just plunge his own body onto Hunter's through the table.
Surely it's over now, right? Nope. Reigns sprinted from the stage one last time and speared Triple H into a stain on the floor. Reigns knew he had committed career suicide, but he didn't care. He had had enough. And the fans, the ones who booed him mercilessly just minutes earlier, ate it all up.
WWE is truly at a tipping point with Reigns' character now, and they need to proceed with caution. If he comes out tonight and cuts a 10-minute promo, or says "son" or "tater tots" or whatever other goofy thing they want him to say, then it would undo all of the good will they created last night. But if he comes out still pissed off and wrecking everything in sight, then the fans will truly be behind him.
As if the task weren't difficult enough, tonight's show is in the Wells Fargo Center in Philly, which is where the Royal Rumble 2015 took place and almost 20,000 people revolted after Reigns won the 30-man match. If he can win them over tonight, then we're on our way to a good place.
I'm curious to see where the story goes from here. There's reason for hope, which is more than I could say about WWE in the last several weeks.
