The much-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens had its premiere in Hollywood Monday night. Official reviews are embargoed until midnight on Wednesday, but that hasn't stopped people from taking their thoughts to Twitter. The results seem to be overwhelmingly positive, with stars and critics alike giving the film a thumb's up.
Some of Hollywood's biggest names shared their glee over the film:
There's a new hero in town, in a movie that DELIVERS. Cried like a baby, whooped like a teen! #StarWarsForceAwakens pic.twitter.com/apo0EHr7EA

And without spoiling it, I can say that #StarWarsForceAwakens has the BEST final shot of any Star Wars film. Wow. — Patton Oswalt (@pattonoswalt) December 15, 2015
Some key critics got in on the action, too. Matthew Panzarino of TechCrunch had much to say about the film:
The Force Awakens is life. Finally, life, back in Star Wars. Warm characters that care for one another and make you care for them.

Rey, Fin, Poe, Kylo Ren. 4 for 4 amazing new characters in Star Wars. Note perfect casting and acting. You'll want to know their story. — Matthew Panzarino (@panzer) December 15, 2015
Among the welcome Star Wars:TFA returns: sweat, rust, patina, effort, genuine humor, verisimilitude, acting. — Matthew Panzarino (@panzer) December 15, 2015
He did admit the film isn't perfect, though:
A familiar rhythm, with new players. Maybe too familiar, as some notes feel obligatory, perfunctory. But overall, magic.

SlashFilm.com's Peter Sciretta had this to say:
Awesome. The Force has indeed awakened. I can't wait for what comes next. #StarWarsForceAwakens — Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) December 15, 2015
And Steven Weintraub of Collider.com thought the film was one of the best in the franchise, putting it on par with the original trilogy:
Not going to say much till I see it again but rest assured THE FORCE AWAKENS is the best STAR WARS since 1983...maybe 1980.
— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) December 15, 2015
Lucky fan Erick Sinatra teased the many "surprises" of the film, saying:
#StarWarsForceAwakens is definitely 1 of the best & good as the old trilogy. The surprises in it is crazy. Kylo is an interesting character — ErickG. (@ErickGSinatra) December 15, 2015
Naturally, some didn't quite love the film as much as others:
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is a strong, promising kickoff. As a standalone, I'd rank it #3 in the series.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS... Sometimes fun, often fine. It had a lot to set up, and I suspect Ep 8 will be able to do more with less. — Kyle Buchanan (@kylebuchanan) December 15, 2015
Full reviews for the film will be released starting at 12:01 a.m. PST on Wednesday, Dec. 16. The film is screening for press Tuesday, and security is said to be extra tight. According to The Wrap, Disney is completely "discouraging people from bringing large bags and purses" and all phones and cameras will be taken before people are allowed in.
