Since the announcement in mid -2010 of a movie on the legendary East Harlem emcee, Tupac Shakur, the film plans have undergone major changes and a series of delays. The directors linked to the project, John Singleton and Antoine Fuqua dropped out of it after a year. But now Fuqua has asserted that the movie is still on and he is waiting for the script to be ready so that he can go into production.
He blamed the bad timing of the announcement for the state of the movie. He opined that it was announced prematurely before everything was finalized.
He told The Playlist blog, "It was announced too soon. I have a deal for Tupac, but the script is not there yet, and it's being worked on. Somehow someone started talking about it, it got out there and went crazy, but it was always a situation of, let's make sure we have a great script, and get it right."
The movie was scheduled to start shooting in Spring 2011 but due to delays it could not be taken up. Fuqua insisted that the movie will be concentrating on "the last few days, that trip from LA to Vegas, and where his head was during that journey." Tupac was shot multiple times and he later died of internal bleeding Sept. 13, 1996.
AllHipHop reported that the director famous for his 2001 movie, "Training Day, " which earned Denzel Washington an Oscar, had expressed that he would like to cast an unknown actor for the protagonist's role.
The director is currently busy with his new movie, "Olympus Has Fallen" that is set to hit theatres March 22, 2013.
