A female-driven comedy network from Veep executive producer and director Stephanie Laing is coming soon. January 4 will see the launch of the online network Put Your Pretty On, or PYPO, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The site will feature editorial series, animations, sketch videos and more on a set topic each week. There will be a bi-weekly newsletter, aptly titled the PYPEline, which will showcase the weekly topic as well as user content focusing on the week's theme.
Former Beats by Dre executive, Susan Paley, and former editor of Capitol Fire, Elizabeth Thorp, are on board as co-founder and editor-in-chief, respectively.
A series of videos has already been created for the site with Rose Byrne's (Spy, Bridesmaids) production company, The Dollhouse Collective, and several writers from the hit show Veep (starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus) are on board as well (Tony Roche and Georgia Pritchett).
Of the project, Laing says the goal of the network is not to focus on reporting the news, rather, they want to create news. Laing further elaborates, "Our focus is on original content and digital shorts. We want to provide that platform for women comics to try out material. Our message to them was, 'let us help you be your own producer. Let us help you execute something.'"
So where does the name, Put Your Pretty On, originate from? Laing told Refinery 29 back in 2013 that when her daughter was five, she told her she "had to put [her] pretty on." Of the incident, Laing said, "It stayed with me, and it's become a daily thing of getting up, putting your game face on, and dealing with life. Put your pretty on is essentially dealing with all your sh--."
PYPO will also have an offline presence, with books and other merchandise as well as in-person events.
The trailer for the network premiered Tuesday on YouTube. Check it out below!
