Smashing Pumpkins Confirmed SXSW 2013 Performance: Band Added to Red Bull Sound Select's Saturday Lineup, "The Sword" Leaks Details

Another awesome band has been added to Saturday's SXSW 2013 schedule: The Smashing Pumpkins!

In what was supposed to initially be a surprise performance, The Smashing Pumpkins have been confirmed to play at the South by South West festival on the fifth and final day of Red Bull's "Sound Select Presents: 120 Hours on Austin" concert series, states Rolling Stone.

The free show will happen in downtown Austin, with the exact location being revealed the morning of the show via the Twitter handle @rbsoundselect.

However, crestfallen.com has luckily uncovered some more details about the secret Pumpkins show. Following rumors of a likely surprise performance at SXSW, a Facebook posting was leaked by rock group "The Sword," advertising RSVP options to attend a joint gig featuring them alongside The Smashing Pumpkins at a Red Bull Pop Up Venue. They specified the pop up location to be at 310 E. 3rd Street in Austin on Saturday the 16th starting at 7:00pm. The post that spilled the deets has since been deleted, but the screen shot (below) remains as proof.

Corgan, the frontman of The Smashing Pumpkins, appeared at last year's SXSW to talk social media and music, as well as the release of the Pumpkins' latest album Oceania, which arrived last summer.  The band is set to continue supporting the record with a U.S. tour scheduled to kick off April 29th in Melbourne, Florida, states iheartradio.com

The band that brought us hits like "1979" and "Tonight, Tonight" is also currently working on their ongoing concept album Teagarden by Kaleidyscope (2009-present), a 44-track record, releasing each song one at a time in a free MP3 format, according to MXDWN.

It has also been said that The Pumpkins are additionally coming up with new material for a separate album release that's in the works for 2014. Maybe those lucky enough to be in attendance at the Red Bull Sound Select this Saturday will hear a preview of this new material!  

For Pumpkin fans, "today is the greatest," as the SXSW performance rumors are confirmed, and the group's 2000-2005 hiatus seems to be far behind them.
