From actress and producer Alyssa Milano (Charmed), comes the gripping final issue to her comic book from BOOM! Studios/Archaia Entertaiment. Hacktivist Volume 2 #6 is an epic conclusion from by co-writers Colin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, and artist Marcus To.
As we previously mentioned, in our reviews from the first to fifth issue, former best friends Nate and Ed were forced to reunite, after being separated for awhile. Unfortunately, there is a new breed of hackers out there, causing all sorts of mayhem as they spread their violent message through coordinated attacks. What burns Nate and Ed to the core is that the hacker group is calling themselves sve_urs3lf, using their former handle to commit these terrorist attacks.
In our MStars News interview, Kelly describes the story arc for the main characters, "With Volume 2, we wanted to tell a story that was looking at the danger and drama in our own backyard. But at the same time, we didn't want the drama to get lost in the action. For all of us over here at Team Hacktivist, the most important thing is always going to be the emotional journey of Ed and Nate, which we absolutely take to a bigger place."
The script by Kelly and Lanzing leads towards a satisfying close, which manages to feel wrapped-up and open-ended at the same time. Ed and Nate have two different kinds of confrantions in the sixth installment. There is the inevitable confrontation between good and evil as the duo face-off against Grace. There is also the emotional drama with the pair as they settle unresolved issues.
Artist Marcus To sure knows how to ramp up the action, especially when Grace shows up with a gun. In a suspenseful sequence, To switches back and forth between medium shots and close-ups. The sequence ends with a wide shot as To illustrates the traumatic consequences of the shootout.
Rating: Must Buy
In the final issue, Hacktivist Vol. 2 #6 delivers its timely message loud and clear. Our fingers are crossed, hoping there's a third volume!
