Reports confirm that a 6th grade student from Michigan brought a whopping $20,000 worth of cash with her to school on Monday (March 11), and started handing out $100 bills from her backpack to fellow classmates. The generous 12-year-old girl told authorities that she received the large bundle of money from a neighborhood friend who lives across the street from her home in Taylor, Michigan. Authorities were called to the school and police eventually seized all of the cash - the massive mound of green is currently being held until whoever comes to claim it can explain where it all came from and what exactly it was meant to be used for.
According to reports, the young student from Sixth Grade Academy showed up to school on Monday with a larger than usual backpack... she then began handing out cash to fellow friends and classmates. Yahoo! News claims that some bills were as large as $100 - the girl had no problem presenting one student with $200, and then another with $500. The large money bills were being passed around the school like candy.
The student's name has not been identified due to her age.
Once school officials discovered who was handing out the free cash prizes, they contacted the local police. "The principal became aware of it when she heard the student was giving away 100 dollar bills to classmates," Taylor Chief of Police Mary Sclabassi said on Tuesday (March 12). "They brought in the student, secured the backpack and retrieved the money she had given away. This is a real first for me."
Sclabassi goes on to explain, "The 12-year-old apparently got the money from another child who lives across the street from her the night before."
Specifics still remain unknown. Authorities confiscated the cash, and will continue to hold it until a reasonable explanation is provided.
The 12-year-old student returned to school on Tuesday.
