Bartolo Colon will be gracing the world of professional baseball with his presence for yet another year. According to CBS' Jon Heyman, the 42-year-old right-handed pitcher will be staying in the National League with the New York Mets, in a one-year deal worth $7.25 million.
In the baseball world this is big news; great news. Colon has become something bigger than just himself -- he's mythical, basically real life Big Foot. On the hill, Colon has exceptional control of his pitches. If you were to ask him to throw the ball at a freckle on the catcher's hand, he'd ask which one. He's also a real treat at the plate with a bat in his hands.
In the National League there's the delightful act of pitchers taking their own at bats -- which, in its own right, is quite entertaining. Colon takes it to another level. Most of the time he swings and misses - -a result that often leaves him pirouetting on the dirt. His helmet also has a really hard time staying on his head, to the point that you have to question whether or not he greased it with butter.
Just received an email with the subject line: "Bartolo GIFs." In related news, I love my job. pic.twitter.com/OaTWjWBMxb

At this point, we know one thing to be true: Bartolo Colon on a baseball diamond gives all the feels of Christmas day. Aside from the sheer joy that Colon brings fans, pundits, and peers alike, however, he's actually a really good fit for the Mets. He fills a position voided by the injured Zach Wheeler, who won't return from Tommy John Surgery until the midseason. He's also spent his two most recent seasons with the ball club, making both parties familiar colleagues.
In 2015, the right-hander won his first four starts before ultimately finishing with a 14-13 record and 4.18 ERA in 194 2/3 innings of work. And while he did not start a postseason game -- a postseason that saw the Mets make it all the way to the World Series -- he did make several relief appearances, chewing up valuable innings.
This May Colon will turn 43. He still does stuff like this. Merry Christmas, world.
