DJ Paul Weapon Possession: Gets A Rap For Carrying Taser Gun In Public, Sentenced To Community Service

Memphis rapper and disc jockey DJ Paul had thought that carrying a taser gun around New York City was cool. But he was caught by the police for possession of a weapon and was sentenced by the court to 21 hours of community service.

The Three 6 Mafia rapper was given a rap after he was found openly carrying a taser gun. DJ Paul whose real name is Paul Beauregard was stopped by New York police, October 2012 while he was leaving a restaurant carrying an open beer with him. TMZ reported that though he did admit that he was carrying a taser, he was arrested for misdemeanor possession of a weapon. He was also charged with carrying an open container.

The 35-year-old rapper and DJ pleaded "not guilty to his charges but he later changed his plea after he made a made a deal with prosecutors and later agreed to plead guilty of disorderly conduct.  He was sentenced by the court to 21 hours of community service.

HipHopDX reports that an officer accidently triggered the taser during DJ Paul's arrest.

"I honestly didn't know it was illegal. I thought it was at the same level as pepper spray. My bodyguard wasn't around last night and I was by myself in NYC and anything can happen in the late hours down there," Paul told TMZ, October 2012.

DJ Paul has three studio albums to his credit, the latest one was his 2012's "A Person of Interst."

He was sued in 2006 for assaulting a man named Ramone Williams. The case was settled amicably when Williams was compensated financially.
