R. Kelly would literally rather be at McDonald's eating a McRib sandwich than sit through an interview that discusses his past. In what started off as a simple fan based question and answer series, quickly turned into a tension-filled verbal altercation that led R. Kelly to walk off the Huffington Post Live set. Take a look at the video of R. Kelly's failed attempt to create a "positive vibes only" interview.
After only about 10 minutes of interviewing, R. Kelly refused to address any questions or comments from fans or Huffington Post correspondent, Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani, regarding his stomach churning past sexual history with minors. In a desperate attempt to divert the conversation to his new album Buffet, R. Kelly began speaking over Tehrani, changing the subject, insulting her intelligence and even tried to position her as a drunk.
R. Kelly was adamant about keeping the focus on his 13th studio album. However, album sales are projected to be significantly low this time around and Tehrani simply wanted to get his perspective on what he thinks could be the reason fan support has decreased. Kelly's response for diminished support was that folks are "getting music off the computers," completely ignoring the 2003 sex crime allegations.
Tehrani prompted a different response by reading a fan tweet regarding his past to which he responded.
"I did not come here to get interrogated," he said. "I didn't come here for a deposition. This sounds sort of like a deposition. This is not about R. Kelly, this is not about music, this is not about someone who works hard on his music who has an album out. This is about trying to interrogate me and this is about disrespect."
Past evidence has shown that R. Kelly and the Internet just aren't a good combination. In 2013, R. Kelly attempted to promote his previous album, Black Panties, with a #AskRKelly conversation on Twitter. The hashtag turned out to be a disastrous PR move because the conversation quickly backfired.
Check out the interview as the long time R&B singer makes good on his threat to walk out of what may be the most awkward question and answer series ever captured on tape. His last words, "This interview is over!"
